Community Risk Reduction

The Canton Fire Department's Fire Prevention Unit provides the following educational services to the community. For further information, or to schedule a service contact the Fire Prevention Unit at 734/394-5456.  Some services may be restricted during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Car Seat Safety Checks

The department provides the service of verifying children's car seats are installed safely in vehicles. Car seats are checked by appointment only, call 734/394-5456.

Evacuation Training

Fire personnel will work with you to develop a fire evacuation plan for your business and help facilitate evacuation training.

Fire Extinguisher Training

The department provides training to the public in the use of personal-sized fire extinguishers.

Fire Prevention Consulting

Fire personnel will provide recommendations on fire prevention resources for homes, businesses, or schools.

Fire Safety House

The department has a specially-designed trailer which allows children to safely experience home fire situations. The fire safety house travels to Canton's elementary and middle schools throughout the school year. The safety house can also be found at community events throughout the year.

Fire Safety Presentation

Fire personnel will speak to your group or organization on fire safety topics.

Fire Station Tours

The department provides tours of the fire stations to requesting groups. (Call 734/398-5262 to schedule appointment.) 

Juvenile Fire Setter Program

The department offers a program for youths displaying/acting on an interest in setting fires. This program is designed to educate and deter the youth from this pattern of dangerous behavior.
