I was raised in Central Ohio on a horse farm.  I received a Bachelor’s degree in Arts and Sciences from The Ohio State University.  I worked as a commercial and residential designer for 15 years in which I fell in love with the drawing and rendering processes of design.  Wanting to share the skills I learned, I decided to teach drawing to people and then expanded my skills to watercolor, colored pencils, and pastels. My goal is to experience more forms of art and expand my horizons at the same time.  I am currently an event programmer and art instructor at Ypsilanti Twp. Recreation Center, building an art program that is affordable to all.  I am also a member of the Ann Arbor Women Artists, Colored Pencil Society of America (and the Detroit Chapter).  I have participated in many juried and non-juried art shows sponsored by these organizations.

My early body of work focused on etchings, woodcuts and pen and ink.  Later work has been mostly with pastels and watercolors.  My style fluctuates from semi-realistic, to impressionistic and expressionistic.  I believe that good art should evoke an emotion in the viewer, and try to do more than capture an image, but also capture a mood. Dennis Gordon has a BFA in Printmaking and Drawing from Tulane University. He has participated in many juried shows and has art featured in many solo and collaborative shows.

I’m a teacher, artist and photographer whose career has spanned over 46 plus years.  During these years I have painted, drawn and photographed thousands of images.  I have always felt honored and blessed that God has granted me the talent to do these things.  The greatest gift he has blessed me with is a passion and love for my work. I attended the Center for Creative Arts and Crafts in Detroit where I received my early exposure and training in drawing, painting and sculpture.  I continued my education at Ferris State College where I majored in Commercial Art.  I transferred to Eastern Michigan University where I earned my BA in Art Education and a Masters of Arts Degree in Photography.  I was employed for 40 years with the State of Michigan as an art teacher at the Maxey Boys Training School.  I also have taught art classes in Brighton, Ypsilanti, and at Washtenaw Community College.  I retired from teaching in 2010 and began traveling around the world. Mr Erby’s work has been featured in many solo and collaborative shows.

This art exhibit at the Gallery@VT is free and open to the public: Monday – Friday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., one hour prior to and during public performances at the theater, as well as by appointment.  The Gallery@VT is closed on holidays.
