This month the Gallery @ VT will feature “Simply Human”
Paintings and Drawings by artist Nina Ashraf Asmi

Exhibition Dates:   Now – January 30, 2017

Nina Ashraf Asmi
Nina found her passion for the arts early in life. She was born in Pakistan, into a family of writers, and an art filled house.  Her childhood home was alive with the constant flow of her father’s artist friends and their art banter- as they discussed and debated views on art and life…this shaped her aesthetics.
Arriving in USA in the 90’s, she continued her journey into art, immersing herself in the study of the human form, portraiture and later abstraction. Nina’s work reflects the care and restraint of the East, and the abandon of Abstract Expressionism.
Through her portraits she seeks to depict our shared humanity… to go beyond differences to embrace the essence that makes each of us the same.
Her art merges influences of her past with those of her home in Metro Detroit.
She is a published artist who has received multiple awards for her art.  Her recent work is featured in the 2016 publication, “Strokes of Genius.”  Learn more about this talent artist at

Drawing is my meditation and my obsession, and the faces before me, my inspiration. Drawing portraits from life, I seek to depict our shared humanity. My quest is for you to have a glimpse of the soul behind the go beyond differences to embrace the essence that makes each of us the same.
